"ChatGPT" Launches a Search Engine to Challenge "Google"
"OpenAI" has announced the launch of an internet search engine that is an extension of its AI-powered interface "ChatGPT". This new search engine aims to compete with "Google", the leading search engine in the field.
The "ChatGPT Search" feature allows the "ChatGPT" program, which it will be integrated with, to not only answer questions and requests with a limited amount of data collected within its database, as it has been until now, but also to search for items online.
"OpenAI" explained in a statement that users will be able to "get fast and relevant answers through links to relevant sources on the internet, which previously required using a search engine."
"OpenAI" also provides users with the ability to search directly on the internet without relying on the "ChatGPT" interface.
A company spokesperson told Agence France-Presse: "We rely on our model (based on artificial intelligence) to determine whether the source provides a good answer to the user's inquiry."
The "ChatGPT Search" engine is now available to subscribers who pay for "ChatGPT Plus" and "ChatGPT Team."
"OpenAI" stated that the search engine will become available for free in the coming months.
As part of this development, "OpenAI" has entered into partnerships with publishers and data providers "to add up-to-date information" and to adopt a special way of presenting information related to certain categories, such as weather forecasts or the results of sports matches and competitions.
Through the "ChatGPT Search" engine, "OpenAI" seeks to compete with "Google" in its core area of expertise, which is also one of "Microsoft's" areas of expertise, as it owns 49% of the capital of the start-up company.
"OpenAI's" current model is based on subscriptions, while "Google's" model is almost entirely based on advertising.
In response to a question from Agence France-Presse, a spokesperson for "OpenAI" said there are currently "no plans" to allow advertising on this new search engine.
Last spring, "Google" added a new AI-based feature called "AI Overviews" to its dedicated search engine, which, like "ChatGPT Search", allows users to get a detailed answer to a query asked in everyday language.
"Microsoft" has also added AI to its "Bing" search engine.
