"Game of Thrones" to Hit the Big Screen: A Movie Adaptation in the Works
The dragons of "Westoros" are set to soar from the small screen to the silver screen, as the first stages of production for at least one film adapted from the popular television series "Game of Thrones" are underway. This news was reported by two major American media outlets, "Hollywood Reporter" and "Deadline," on Thursday.
The television series, produced by HBO for eight seasons, became a global cultural phenomenon. From 2011 to 2019, it captivated audiences worldwide and achieved a record-breaking number of Emmy Awards, earning a total of 59.
Originally based on George R.R. Martin's fantasy novel series of the same name, "Game of Thrones" depicted conflicts set in medieval times. It has already inspired a spin-off series called "House of the Dragon." Additionally, several other adaptations for the small screen are in the works.
Previously, Warner Bros. had declined to adapt the series for the big screen, despite discussions between the author and the show's writers regarding potential film projects set in the world of Westoros.
However, it seems the Hollywood studio has changed its mind and is "secretly working on at least one film" inspired by "Game of Thrones," according to "Hollywood Reporter." The magazine further suggested that recent administrative changes within Warner Bros. might have contributed to this shift in direction.
Recent television adaptations of film franchises like "The Batman," "Dune," and the upcoming "Harry Potter" series have demonstrated that the studio's productions can achieve success on both the small and big screens.
"Deadline" clarified that the project is currently in the "early stages of discussions" and that the cast for the "Game of Thrones" film has not yet been determined.
