Supporting Global Relief Efforts Through Air Transportation
The 16th Global Humanitarian Aviation Conference and Exhibition, themed "A Journey of Hope", was inaugurated in Doha under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al-Sulaiti, Minister of Transport. Organized by the United Nations World Food Programme in collaboration with humanitarian aviation organizations, the conference attracted key figures from the aviation sector.
Qatar's Leading Role in Humanitarian Assistance
During his opening speech, H.E. Mr. Al-Sulaiti emphasized Qatar's unwavering support for international humanitarian organizations, particularly in addressing the economic challenges and funding gaps faced by developing nations. He highlighted Qatar Airways' commitment to partnering with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, through advocacy, donations, and cargo services. This collaboration aims to provide crucial support to humanitarian efforts by delivering aid supplies to refugees and displaced populations worldwide.
Qatar Airways' Contributions to Global Relief
H.E. Mr. Al-Sulaiti also acknowledged Qatar Airways' significant contributions in evacuating thousands of civilians from Kabul airport and its essential role in transporting over 3 million passengers safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. This included operating unscheduled flights to facilitate the return of people to their home countries during global lockdowns.
Strengthening Collaboration for Effective Humanitarian Aviation
The conference focused on enhancing the capabilities of civil aviation authorities, aviation industries, and national organizations operating in humanitarian aid locations. It aimed to foster stronger relationships among air operators and promote comprehensive collaboration within the aviation sector to minimize risks and prevent aviation accidents. H.E. Mr. Al-Sulaiti stressed the importance of cooperation among all stakeholders in ensuring the timely delivery of life-saving aid through air transport to those in need, regardless of location. He considered the conference a valuable platform for fostering collaboration, generating new initiatives, and forging innovative partnerships to increase efficiency in humanitarian air operations.
